Madison Students Move Into New Apartments

Students Faced Soggy Conditions

POSTED: 5:08 pm CDT August 15, 2007

Students were faced with rain Wednesday as they started moving into their apartments near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.

Thousands of students began moving in soggy conditions Wednesday after being displaced when their leases ended Tuesday afternoon.

One landlord said she has been part of the moving tradition for 23 years but has never experienced such rainy weather on move-in day.

"It's the first time it has rained on move-in day. I'm glad it hasn't rained those other years," said Joyce Suddeth, landlord for Suddeth Investments.

While many city curbs were littered with things that students threw out while moving, some landlords said that they feel recycling is becoming more common, rather than everything from old furniture to clothes ending up in a garbage pile.
