Common Council Considers Water, Regional Transit Plans

Council Refers Resolution To Subcommittees

Posted: 10:25 pm CDT July 17, 2007

The Madison Common Council met Tuesday night to discuss a strategic plan for the Madison Water Utility and the proposed Regional Transit Authority.

The Madison Water Utility has fielded some concerns in the past year over water quality and high manganese levels, WISC-TV reported.

The council on Tuesday night is weighing in on whether to accept a strategic plan put forward from an outside company.

The Water Utility took part in the process to find ways for improvement within the department.

The council on Tuesday night also referred a resolution in support of a Regional Transit Authority to four different subcommittees.

It's the first step toward building a commuter rail in Dane County. The plan has support from Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk.

The council is scheduled to take up the issue at its Aug. 7 meeting.
