PORTAGE, Wis. -- The landlord of the Portage house that held horrific secrets of alleged torture and abuse said that the family who rented the house seemed like any normal family."I never had a problem with them," said landlord Rex Taylor. "They were very quiet, kept to themselves. Never caused any problems in the neighborhood here."Taylor said that there was nothing suspicious about Michael Sisk and Candice Clark, WISC-TV reported. He said that the inside of the home was spotless and that the children's rooms were nicely decorated and filled with toys.Taylor said that the family recently made a request."They asked me if they could plant a flower garden in the back," said Taylor. "A couple of days later, they asked me if they could put in a cement patio at his cost."Taylor said that he now thinks that was an attempt to cover up the body buried in that exact spot."That's right where the body was," said Taylor. The body of a 37-year-old woman was unearthed over the weekend. She also reportedly lived in the house, WISC-TV reported.Police said that they found the dead woman's 11-year-old son, starved, tortured, and locked in a closet. Taylor said he last saw the boy in March."He was a very healthy boy," said Taylor. "There was nothing wrong with him."Four other children were also found in the home. All were placed in protective custody.Michelle Schaefer, a neighbor nearby, said that she is still trying to process what happened."It hits closest to home," said Schaefer. "We're just a couple of blocks up the road. We heard about it and didn’t know anything like that was going on."Authorities in Florida said that Clark and Sisk were jailed after writing forged checks. There were warrants out for Sisk's arrest.A recent credit report led authorities to the Portage home, WISC-TV reported.
