Thompson Made Statement About Bid For White House

MADISON, Wis. -- Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson on Wednesday said that he will continue his candidacy for president.
VIDEO: Listen To Thompson's AnnouncementThompson reiterated his desire to work in the Oval Office at a telephone conference call with reporters on Wednesday afternoon.Thompson stressed that he will take part in the Iowa straw poll on Aug. 11 and encourages other Republican candidates to take part as well.Thompson said that he thinks the poll is a very important barometer of the presidential race and that it will be an event no matter how many candidates enter. Republican frontrunners Rudy Giuliani and John McCain have said that they won't take part in the poll."So let's start the race," Thompson said.The former governor said that his strategy for winning Iowa has been to visit cities, towns and villages in the state every week until the vote."I am campaigning around the clock right now," Thompson said.
