Construction Worker Dies After Fall On UW-Madison Campus

Accident Occurred Wednesday

A construction worker is dead after a fall off a ladder on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus on Wednesday.

Police said that the 37-year-old man was working at the construction site at Hiram Smith Hall when he fell about 7 feet off a ladder and landed on his head, WISC-TV reported.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital on Thursday.

The man's name hasn't been released by authorities.

UW police said that this is the first serious accident to occur on the many construction sites in the downtown campus.

"We have lots of construction happening," said UW police Sgt. Michael Newton. "Our construction sites are very safe on campus. It's an accident He was wearing all the safety equipment he should have been wearing and it happened."

The man was an employee of Robinson Brothers Environmental. He was working on asbestos removal.
