Marquette Elementary Neighbor Volunteers $250,000 To Keep School Open
Man Presented Plan To School Board On Monday

MADISON, Wis. -- A new plan for keeping Marquette Elementary School open was laid out at the Madison school board meeting on Monday night.The plan was spearheaded by resident Bob Queen, an active member of the neighborhood association.Queen said that he would donate $250,000 of his own money to keep the school open in the short term.He also said that the neighborhood association is in favor of the district selling four lots behind the school to a developer. He said there is already a plan in place, WISC-TV reported.Queen said that he's waiting to formally present his proposal to the school board.Last week, the school board voted to combine Marquette and Lapham elementary schools under Lapham's roof.In related news, Arelene Silveria was voted in as the new school board president.
