Governor's Budget Calls For Funding

MADISON, Wis. -- Gov. Jim Doyle's proposed budget calls for funding BadgerCare Plus, and more people in the state would be eligible for the state's health insurance plan under the proposal.Under the proposal, officials said BadgerCare Plus would cover 71,000 more people.One of the people who would be covered is Kevin Gostomski, 24, who was in a bicycling accident. The recent college graduate was only working part-time when the incident happened and didn't have insurance."I had to go to the hospital, go to the emergency room and that night, fortunately for me, a doctor was able to perform surgery on me and put a titanium plate into my chin and to help heal my jaw," Gostomski said.Gostomski said he remains thousands of dollars in debt from medical bills.BadgerCare Plus would cover people like him, as well as farmers, the self-employed and relatives who care for loved ones, WISC-TV reported.The governor said the plan would provide health coverage to 98 percent of the state's citizens.
