Fire officials said that some roads near the plant, located in the 200 block of Waubesa Street near Atwood Avenue, were closed and motorists are being advised to avoid that area to allow emergency crews to get through.

Eric Dahl, public information officer for the fire department, said there is no immediate threat to the neighborhood.

The person who was injured, a worker at the plant, has unknown injuries, WISC-TV reported.

Fire officials said that the fire and smoke was contained to the machine but involved aluminum and magnesium, which required a special fire extinguisher.

A hazardous incident team has been called to the scene to evaluate the situation.

Two Madison Metro buses have been sent to St. Paul Avenue and Waubesa Street to be used as warming shelters, Metro officials said.
