Wisconsin Nurses Bare It All For A Good Cause

Nurses Turn Calendar Girl For Charity

UPDATED: 10:12 am CST November 13, 2006

A group of local nurses is baring it all to help one of their own bear a burden of pain.

The group of nurses from Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital has shared their most intimate moments with each other over the years, WISC-TV reported.

"This group has been together through births, weddings, deaths and illnesses, forever," said nurse Terry Haag.

Now, they're exposing themselves in a whole new way.

"I'm 46 and I'm Ms. September," said Brenda Murphy.

"My month is February, and I’m 52-years-old, said Haag.

Inspired by the movie "Calendar Girls," the nurses showed some skin in their own Real Nurses calendar.

"I think it symbolizes bravery in a different kind of light," said Pam Schreiner.

"I don't see us as sex symbols at all," laughed Carlene Roelke.

"It took many photos and shots for a 50-year-old woman to get that cover," said Schreiner.

But baring their bodies was nothing compared to the pain one of their own nurses is bearing, they said.

Nurse Carlene Roelke lost two sons in two years -- one to cancer and the other to a motorcycle accident.

"I feel like I couldn't ask for better support that what I've had," said Roelke.

"We just have always been there for each other and we feel strong about that," said Murphy.

"Sometimes, I had to do extra things to get my boys attention," said Roelke. "I think I would get their attention on this."

The women said that all of the money raised will go to the Roelke Brothers Scholarship Fund.

Both boys were still in school when they died.

"I'm not putting two sons, or helping them go through college, but I feel I'm helping some other kids," said Roelke.

Since nurses spend much of their days teaching, they said that they believe it's fitting their calendar girl experience will send kids to school.

More than 400 calendars have been sold.
