UW Fraternities And Sororities Help Patrol Campus

Posted: 8:54 pm CST November 5, 2006Updated: 9:54 pm CST November 5, 2006

As the UW campus looks to find ways to keep the streets safe, a new Neighborhood Watch group hopes to give it the old college try.

Collaborating with Madison police, the UW Greek community kicked off the watch this weekend.

Organizations each plan to log four hours of patrolling on the weekends every semester.

Group leaders said it's time students dedicated the hours to keeping their community safe.

"There is certainly a stereotype of apathetic college students, certainly within the Greek community," said Alpha Epsilon Pi president Alex Sheridan. "But we're here to prove that, you know, we're a different breed."
