CAZENOVIA, Wis. -- Classes will resume Thursday at Weston Schools in Cazenovia for the first time since principal John Klang was shot to death in a hallway last Friday. That was the same day Weston High School was to start homecoming festivities, which then were canceled. After Klang's funeral Wednesday, officials announced homecoming has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14.Although there haven't been any classes since the shooting, the school has been kept open for parents and children to gather and meet with teachers and counselors.Superintendent Terry Milfred said counselors will also be on hand tomorrow and Friday, as well as an armed sheriff's deputy. For an added sense of security, volunteers will greet any adults entering the building, taking their names and issuing name-tag stickers.Gov. Jim Doyle, U.S. Rep. Ron Kind and state Senate Majority Leader Dale Schultz will greet students.Milfred said administrators are trying to balance the educational environment with a safe and secure feeling in school.Other plans call for placing a telephone in every classroom and using a $50,000 federal grant for such equipment as walkie-talkies for teachers. Each student at school on Thursday will get a T-shirt proclaiming Klang a superhero, which plays into the Superheroes theme for this year's homecoming.
