JANESVILLE, Wis. -

A Janesville man was arrested for a domestic incident with his mother. Cory Berkley, 41, pushed and struck his mother during a verbal and physical attack, according to a report.

The Janesville police arrived on the scene on Friday. When they tried to arrest Berkley he refused to surrender and retreated into the basement area of the residence, according to a report. Police deployed pepper ball pellets into the basement and the suspect, overcome by the chemical fumes, Berkley surrendered to officers.

Police arrested Berkley. He is charged with false imprisonment, battery, disorderly conduct, and strangulation.

He was transported to the Rock County Jail pending an initial appearance.
