The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection is encouraging consumers who are experiencing billing problems with U.S. Cellular to file an official complaint with the government.
Sandy Chalmers, who runs the Consumer Protection Division, said her department has heard from dozens of consumers, starting all the way back to last summer when the phone carrier switched billing systems. She said most of those affected used auto pay to settle their accounts.
News 3 took the concerns of hundreds of Wisconsin residents to Chicago recently to question top executives at the phone company about the billing problems. A vice president with the company suggested it might take a few more months to solve the billing issues. That story aired on Monday night on News 3 and Chalmers said her office heard more complaints immediately afterwards.
"We will be following up with U.S. Cellular on this," Chalmers said. "I saw your report last night and the vice president said he thought it should be resolved in the next few months. Well, that's a lot of time. It started in August of last year and it's time to get this resolved."
