Hiring is set to begin for a Dollar General distribution center in Janesville that is expected to employ 500 people.
Company officials will be at the Janesville Conference Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to talk to potential employees and take applications.
Construction began on the approximately 1-million-square-foot facility in November 2015 and is expected to be completed by late fall 2016. The distribution center at Innovation Drive and Beloit Avenue is expected to serve approximately 1,000 stores in the upper Midwest. It will also include an onsite truck maintenance facility and dispatch center, officials said.
The Janesville City Council unanimously approved an $11.5 million tax increment financing deal for Dollar General.
The company will also offer a higher minimum wage than most businesses in the area, with jobs averaging $15.50 an hour. Janesville City Council members described the deal as a win for the city and the state.
The city has owned the land for the last 10 years, and other companies have looked at the site in the past, but no deals were ever made.
