The University of Wisconsin's nonprofit licensing and patenting organization will receive one of the nation's highest honors, a National Medal of Technology from President George W. Bush.

The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation will be recognized for making sure the public benefits from its technological research.

WARF's list of discoveries includes Coumarin -- the most widely prescribed blood thinner, and a storage solution for transplant organs that increases organ viability among many others.

"It's not only a great recognition for the UW and WARF, but it's also a great recognition for the importance of technology transfer for university technology in the United States," said Carl Gulbrandsen, WARF's managing director.

WARF will receive the national medal March 14 in a ceremony at the White House. ( Read More )
