State Street Store Blame Halloween Riot For Closing
POSTED: 12:09 p.m. CST November 14, 2003
MADISON, Wis. -- The fallout continues from the Halloween riot on State Street -- a business damaged during the melee is closing its doors for good.
Tomboy Girl had its front window smashed and goods inside destroyed. Small pieces of fiber-glass are imbedded in clothing, making them worthless.
"We're missing the holiday season," said owner Tret Fure. "It's going to take us at least two weeks to get back up and running."
Fure also said for such a small business, it's too expensive and too risky to remain open.
Owners face another hardship due to the closing --- there's one year left on the store's lease. Without merchandise to sell, there's no way to pay the rent.
They are looking for someone to sublet.
