Updated: 11:31 am CST February 10, 2009

The Madison Planning Commission on Monday night unanimously approved the plan to build a new Hy-Vee grocery store at Westgate Shopping Center on the city's West Side.

The Iowa-based grocery chain submitted plans for an 83,000-square-foot store near the intersection of Whitney Way and Odana Road, south of the existing TJ Maxx store.

Proponents said that the store will create 300 new jobs in the area, WISC-TV reported.

Store officials said that they hope to be open for business by summer 2010.
