MADISON, Wis. -- Seven Wisconsin stores are among the hundreds Circuit City is closing after the retailer failed to overcome consumer constraints and the crippled credit market.The nation's second-biggest consumer electronics company has notified the state Department of Workforce Development the Wisconsin closures will affect 367 employees.The stores Circuit City will close in Wisconsin are located in Madison, Greenfield, Racine, Brookfield, Grand Chute and Ashwaubenon.Officials said that 47 employees will be laid off at the company's store on Madison's East side and another 54 workers will be let go on the West Side location.The Richmond, Va.-based retailer announced on Friday that it will shut down its remaining 567 U.S. stores at the cost of 34,000 jobs after failing to sell the business. Circuit City said liquidating the stores should last through March, after which they will be closed.Restrained consumer spending has also claimed KB Toys, Linens 'N Things and Mervyns.Cub Foods is closing four stores statewide, including the Verona Road location. Officials said that 70 employees are affected, WISC-TV reported.
