MADISON, Wis. -- In a welcome sign to many, it appears the global credit crunch is easing. The lending rates between banks in the U.S. and Europe have dropped to its lowest levels in a month.Once those banks increase their lending to each other, that paves the way for consumers to borrow money, WISC-TV reported. Some big companies, however, are posting losses. Government officials continue to look for ways to get the economy going again.Lawmakers are considering another stimulus package similar to the rebate checks that were sent out earlier this year.Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warns there needs to be some sort of boost or the economic slump will drag on.But one University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business professor said it's questionable whether a stimulus package would have the desired effect."It's not clear a stimulus package will work. I think what the fed chair is saying is if we want to avoid an unemployment rate of eight percent its worthwhile considering stimulus packages," said Morris Davis.Davis said its not clear what form that package would come in at this point either in checks to taxpayer or a major investment in infrastructure across the country.
