JANESVILLE, Wis. -- The General Motors assembly plant in Janesville will temporarily lay off some workers on the second shift next week. The ongoing American Axle strike is forcing the move.GM said the layoff is temporary and could rotate with first shift every other week if the strike continues.Right now, both shifts are working half days."It's something usual. It's usually hit or miss. You either work or you don't. Actually, it's great for me, because I'm going to South Dakota to go snow goose hunting next week, so I won't have to use my vacation time. So I'm happy," said Gary Schroeder, a line worker at the GM plant in Janesville.GM representatives said they anticipate both shifts to work the week of March 24 but that it all depends on the American Axle strike.American Axle builds components needed to assemble the Chevy Tahoe.
