San Francisco Giants (66-69) At Chicago Cubs (55-79), 2:20 P.m.
(Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs will try to make it two wins in a row this afternoon at Wrigley Field when they battle the San Francisco Giants in the middle test of a three-game series. The Cubs ended a six-game losing streak Friday afternoon with a 6-2 victory over the Giants. Matt Murton hit a two-run homer and Rich Hill pitched eight strong innings to lift Chicago. Hill (4-6) gave up one run on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts and Ryan Theriot added a solo home run for the Cubs, who won for just the second time in 12 games. Pedro Feliz and Fred Lewis each drove in a run and Noah Lowry (7-8) took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in five innings for the Giants, who have dropped three of their last four games. San Francisco is now 2 1/2 games behind San Diego for the NL wild card. The Giants took two of three from the Cubs in San Francisco back in May, but Chicago has won seven of the last 11 encounters. Matt Cain will take the ball for San Fran today after turning in an excellent start his last time on the mound. Cain earned his 10th victory of the season last Sunday against Cincinnati by allowing just four hits over seven shutout innings. He also struck out nine batters while walking two. Cain is 2-0 with a 0.46 ERA in his last three starts. The 21-year-old righty is 1-1 with a 5.02 ERA in two career starts against the Cubs. Sean Marshall is expected to make his return from the 15-day disabled list and get today's start for the Cubs. Marshall has been sidelined since July 22 with a strained left oblique muscle. The rookie from Richmond, Virginia is 5-8 with a 4.98 ERA in 19 starts this season. The 24-year-old lefty faced the Giants back on May 11 and was dealt the loss after getting slammed for nine runs in 3 2/3 innings. That was Marshall's first and only career outing against San Francisco.
