(Sports Network) - Freddy Sanchez doubled in three runs and Zach Duke pitched six scoreless innings for his second straight win, as the Pittsburgh Pirates captured a 5-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the opener of a doubleheader at PNC Park. Adam LaRoche homered and Ryan Doumit stroked a pair of hits for the Pirates, who have won six in a row for their longest winning streak since they ripped off 10 straight wins from June 26 through July 5 of 2004. Duke (2-2) allowed five hits and walked five while fanning three. He beat San Francisco his last time out and has won consecutive starts for the first time since September 11 and 17 of 2006. Chipper Jones had three hits and a walk for the Braves, who left 15 runners on base. Atlanta starter Jair Jurrjens (4-3), who was 3-0 in his previous four starts, suffered his first loss since April 15 at Florida. He was charged with three runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in five innings.

Final Score: Atlanta 8, Pittsburgh 1 (Game Two)

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Tim Hudson gave up just one unearned run as Atlanta defeated Pittsburgh, 8-1, to help the Braves split a doubleheader with the Pirates at PNC Park. Hudson (6-2) settled down after a first inning run and wound up throwing seven innings of two-hit ball to win his third straight start. He also walked two while striking out five for the Braves, who avoided a four-game sweep. Brian McCann hit a three-run home run while Mark Kotsay went 3-for-5 with three RBI for Atlanta, which has the best home record in the majors (14-4), but is also saddled with the worst road record (5-14). John Van Benschoten (0-2) was banged up for seven runs -- six earned -- on nine hits with two walks and five strikeouts in four-plus innings of work for the Pirates, who had their first six-game winning streak in almost four years stopped. Doug Mientkiewicz had a double and scored the lone run.

Final Score: Cincinnati 8, Florida 7

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Jeff Keppinger and Brandon Phillips each hit two-run homers to help the Cincinnati Reds down the Florida Marlins, 8-7, in the opener of a four-game set at Great American Ball Park. Corey Patterson went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while Adam Dunn also drove in a run for the Reds, who have won two of their last three games. Aaron Harang (2-5) got his first win since April 10 as he gave up four runs on seven hits in seven innings of work. He had dropped his past four decisions. Dan Uggla went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and scored three times while Jeremy Hermida added a solo home run and scored twice for the Marlins, who had a season-high seven-game winning streak stopped. Burke Badenhop got the start and was charged with four runs -- three earned -- on six hits in six innings of work. Taylor Tankersley (0-1) got the loss for giving up four runs in the seventh.

Final Score: Washington 10, New York 4

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Odalis Perez did it all for Washington, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in, and earning the victory on the mound, as the Nationals downed the New York Mets, 10-4, in the opener of a four-game set at Shea Stadium. Perez (1-3), who had collected only two hits in 13 at-bats this year, more than doubled his season output at the dish. Meanwhile, atop the hill, the veteran southpaw hurled 6 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on 11 hits and two walks while fanning five, good enough for his first win in five outings. Perez avenged an April 15 loss to the Mets in which he allowed six hits and two earned runs in six innings, and improved to 5-6 lifetime against New York. Jesus Flores doubled, crossed the plate twice and drove in two runs for the Nationals, who snapped a three-game skid. Nick Johnson scored three runs and knocked one in, and Lastings Milledge doubled, scored and had two RBI. Rob Mackowiak added two runs and an RBI for Washington, which had dropped five of six. Felipe Lopez finished with a pair of hits and one run batted in. Damion Easley went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Mets, who had triumphed in three of their last four overall, and four of their five matchups with the Nats this season. David Wright belted a solo homer and scored twice, and Carlos Beltran had two hits and knocked in a run. Nelson Figueroa (2-3) lasted five innings and was roughed up for six runs -- four earned -- on five hits and five walks while striking out four, falling to 1-2 in six career starts against Washington. The journeyman righthander, who had been out of the majors since 2004, took a no-decision against the Nats on April 17, allowing three hits and two runs in seven innings of a 3-2 Mets win. Jorge Sosa surrendered four runs on four hits and two walks in his lone inning of relief.

Final Score: Milwaukee 8, St. Louis 3

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Ryan Braun hit two home runs for the second straight day, and the Milwaukee Brewers scored five times in the third inning en route to an 8-3 dismantling of the St. Louis Cardinals in the finale of a four-game series at Miller Park. Corey Hart went 2-for-4 and knocked in a pair of runs for the Brewers, who took three of four in the series. Bill Hall added a solo homer, while Mike Cameron doubled, knocked in a run and scored a run. Dave Bush (1-4) held the Cardinals to a run on four hits over six innings to pick up his first win of the season, while Guillermo Mota picked up his first save. Rick Ankiel homered for the Cardinals, who have lost five of six, while Jason LaRue and Skip Schumaker drove in a run apiece. Adam Wainwright (3-2) lost after being shelled for eight runs -- six earned -- on eight hits over six innings.

Final Score: Chicago 12, San Diego 3

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer, part of an electric offensive outing that saw the Chicago Cubs cruise past the San Diego Padres, 12-3, in the opener of a four-game set at Wrigley Field. Carlos Zambrano (6-1) made another quality start for Chicago, hurling seven innings and giving up three runs on six hits and two walks while fanning five. He had been scheduled to pitch Sunday, but was pushed back to Monday after rain delayed the start of the game for nearly an hour. Geovany Soto and Mark DeRosa also drove in two runs apiece for the Cubs, who have triumphed in four straight. Derrek Lee went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Aramis Ramirez and Kosuke Fukudome each scored twice and knocked in one apiece. Randy Wolf (2-3) lasted only four innings for San Diego, surrendering seven runs on eight hits and five walks. The southpaw slipped to 0-3 over his last four starts, and 2-6 in his career against the Cubs. Sean Henn fared no better in relief, yielding five runs on three hits and three walks over just 1 2/3 innings. Jody Gerut went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two walks for the Padres, who have dropped six of their last eight outings. Tadahito Iguchi and Edgar Gonzalez -- who made his MLB debut -- each added an RBI, as San Diego fell to 12-4 in the last 16 meetings with Chicago.

Final Score: Houston 7, San Francisco 3

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Roy Oswalt threw eight innings, retiring the final 14 batters he faced, as the Houston Astros continued their momentous May with a 7-3 win over the San Francisco Giants. Lance Berkman continued his hot stretch, going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for the Astros, who are 9-1 this month. Berkman tied a club record by scoring in his 15th straight game. He's on an 11-game hitting streak, batting .393 this season, including a .509 average since April 26. Oswalt (4-3), who won his fourth consecutive decision, allowed five hits and three runs while fanning six without issuing a walk. It was just his second win (2-5) in San Francisco. Jose Valverde came on in the ninth inning and notched his ninth save. He retired pinch- hitter Ray Durham on a fly ball with the bases loaded to end the game, as Houston continued its success on a season-long 10-game road trip. John Bowker hit a solo homer for the Giants, who have dropped six of their last eight games. Barry Zito avoided moving to 0-8 this season as he had probably his best outing of the season, giving up seven hits and three runs over six innings in the no-decision. The lefty, pitching on the eve of his 30th birthday, walked one and struck out two. The three runs he received equaled the best run support he's had all season. Vinnie Chulk (0-1) gave up the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and was saddled with the loss in the opener of the four-game series.
