There are many levels of good corporate citizenship and the Greater Madison region has examples of all of them. In fact one of our greatest assets is a business community that actively participates in civic life and philanthropy, encouraging employee volunteerism, making corporate contributions to philanthropic causes and supporting agencies providing services to those who need them. We are a generous community.
But last week Land's End stepped up in such an impressive way in both focus and timing that it stood out. In response in large part to the work of the Madison Homeless Outreach Mission, and Madison civic leaders Tim Metcalfe, Michael Johnson and Will Green posing as homeless to draw attention to the issue, Land's End announced it is donating $30,000 worth of men's and women's and children's winter clothing to the Mission.
First of all this will have a direct and immediate impact improving lives of real people. But second, the willingness of Land's End to just act, in the moment of need, is an wonderful example of commitment and values. We are impressed, and very appreciative.
