All it took was a “warrior two” pose with a beverage in hand for beer yoga to take the internet by storm, and even local yoga studios have started hosting the novelty events. But now Madison has what could be the next craze: beer massages.
Which pretty much proves we’ll use any excuse to drink a beer.
The Edgewater Spa now offers a stress-reliever massage featuring Tangerine IPA from Potosi Brewing Co. It’s one of three spa services inspired by The Edgewater’s summer music series. The hotel has partnered with a few breweries for the music series that have events scheduled for Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer, and the beer-inspired spa services are just a fun extension of that partnership, says spa director Kelleye Heydon.
And no, you’re not drinking a beer through that little face-hole pillow when you’re on the massage table (although it’s worth a try!). Instead, after each of the three services (a massage, a body treatment and a pedicure), you’re offered a beer to enjoy in the relaxation room. The spa doesn’t actually incorporate the beers in the spa services. Although Heydon says some beer treatments do exist, and she’s been looking into that, like hop-infused massage oil. For these summer offerings, the Edgewater Spa used the brews only as inspiration, and a cold beer comes with the service.A tangerine essential oil is used in the stress-reliever massage, which is an ode to the Tangerine IPA from Potosi Brewing Co. Heydon says the tangerine scent helps with circulation and hydration. After this 60-minute ($120) or 90-minute ($150) massage, spa staff offers you a tallboy can of the Potosi Brew to enjoy in the relaxation room.
The sweet berry body treatment is a take on Door County Brewing Co.’s Big Sister Witbier, which has subtle notes of hibiscus flowers that give it a tart yet sweet berry flavor. The body treatment features the scents of raspberries, Square One organic vodka and more. A bottle of the witbier will await you at the end of the 60-minute treatment ($120).
Inspired by Tyranena’s Three Beaches Honey Blonde beer (the Wisconsin version of an American Blonde Ale), the spa’s special summer pedicure offering is all honey-based. It includes a whipped honey sea salt scrub, a yogurt, honey and oat mask and a sunflower honey butter serum, all while a honey and magnolia flower scent fills the air. Enjoy your beer during or after the 75-minute pedicure ($70).
So if spa day and happy hour happen to fall on the same day for you, go ahead and treat yo’ self.
