5 food events to kick off November

Herb Faire, Wisconsin Cheese Camp and more

Wednesday, Nov. 1
No other food says “fall” quite like pumpkin does. Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin spice cookies, pumpkin pie—you get the point. Try your hand at a few pumpkin spice recipes with delecTable’s Everything Pumpkin Cooking Class. Learn how to make creamy pumpkin soup, pumpkin and ricotta gnocchi, pumpkin praline bread pudding and more! The best part? You get to eat your own creations afterward. $49, 5:30-7:30 p.m., eventbrite.com

Thursday, Nov. 2
America may be a cultural melting pot, but what goes into America’s cooking pot? Is it meatloaf, or is it mac and cheese? Author Gabrielle Langholtz has the answer. Langholtz will be joined by contributors Christine Muhlke and Ari Weinzweig at the Wisconsin Book Festival: America: The Cookbook to discuss this country’s culinary heritage and tradition. If you’re interested in learning about authentic American dishes and regional favorites, don’t miss this one. Free, 7 p.m., wisconsinbookfestival.org

Friday, Nov. 3
Old age shouldn't stop you from enjoying great beer. ColoniALE Fest 2017 is bringing more than 60 different beers—including its homegrown Sun Prairie Wort Hogs—to benefit the Colonial Club Senior Center, a nonprofit that serves older adults and their families throughout northeast Dane County. If you’re not into beer, there will be a variety of wine to sample as well. $30, 6-9 p.m., eventbrite.com

Saturday, Nov. 4
Now that Halloween is in the books, that means the holiday season is just around the corner. So if you want to nail down your holiday dishes and decorations, be sure to check out the 35th Annual Herb Faire. Learn how to spice up plain 'ole wreaths with some herbs and dried flowers, and learn how to mix up some fragrant holiday cocktails with herbal cordials. Also learn about using herbs to improve your digestive health—it might be just what you need after chowing down on all that Halloween candy. Free, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., madisonherbsociety.org

Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 4-5
Calling all cheeseheads—we found your heaven! Brace yourself as you welcome in a dairy-loaded weekend at Wisconsin Cheese Camp. Start your Saturday with either a creamery tour or cheddar cheese tour, and end your day with a gourmet four-course cheddar dinner. Slide into Sunday by first exploring biodiversity in cheese production via talks and tastings, and then wrap up your uber cheesy weekend by sampling more than 150 artisan cheeses made by 30 of Wisconsin’s best cheesemakers.
