MADISON, Wis. -

Mosquitoes found in the Madison Metro area have tested positive for West Nile virus, according to a release from Public Health Madison and Dane County.

In 2013, two confirmed and two probable cases of West Nile Virus were reported in Dane County. A total of 23 cases have been reported in this county since 2002.

Health officials said the finding is a good reminder that we need to continue protecting ourselves from mosquito bites. They suggest wearing long sleeves and pants and using repellant especially during the dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.

The mosquitoes were collected as part of an ongoing surveillance program.
