A Dane County animal rendering facility will pay penalties for dumping animal waste water in violation of its permit, according to a complaint from the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

The complaint states Bailey Farms dumped animal waste water consistent with what would come from a dead stock removal facility into a pit in the town of Medina in 2010. The area is part of the Upper Rick River drainage basin.

The complaint said the farm violated its permit by failing to submit required reports, discharging pollutants without a permit, failing to notify the DNR of a discharge, and over-applying nitrogen and chlorides to a site approved for spreading pollutants.

Bailey agreed to pay $27,500 in forfeitures and penalties and has changed its operation to bring it into compliance with its permit.
