UW Hospital researchers say new technique helps against breast cancer

Scientists at the University of Wisconsin Hospital are sharing some of the strides their making in the battle against breast cancer.

Dr. Kevin Kozak and his colleagues said that they have come up with a new technique that delivers three drugs, in one package, so to speak. The research is backed by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and is apparently generating unprecedented results, officials said.

For Robin Douthitt, the science is bringing new hope She was diagnosed with breast cancer 14 years ago.

"It's very exciting, especially for people like myself who have metastatic breast cancer," Douthitt said.

Doctors said that the research, which was done on mice, is promising. Instead of multiple drug infusions with a possible toxicity impact, the drugs in Kozak's procedure loads multiple drugs into one infusion in an agent that has proven so far to be less toxic then traditional chemotherapy.
