MADISON, Wis. -

Wisconsin health officials said the influenza season is starting early this year and are asking residents to get flu shots.

There have been 113 laboratory-confirmed flu cases reported this season and 12 people have been hospitalized. Last year at this time, there were seven reported flu cases, and no one had been hospitalized for the flu, according to state officials.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone age 6 months and older get a vaccination.

Dr. Henry Anderson, state health officer, said vaccine supply is ample. He suggested to avoid spreading the flu, college students should seek vaccinations at their campus health services office before leaving for the holiday break.
