The American Heart Association's new guidelines for
using statins to treat high cholesterol and prevent
heart disease are expected to result in about 13 million
more Americans taking the drugs.
That's according to a report in the New England Journal
of Medicine which says most of the additional statin
users will be over 60 years old.

Researchers in Chicago say infections caused by anti-biotic
resistant superbugs are on the rise among children
in the U.S.
The infections are still rare, but the bacteria is
being found more and more in young children, while
scientists try to figure out how to treat it.

Researchers at the Mayo Clinic say people who develop
diabetes and high blood pressure in middle age are
twice as likely to have brain cell loss and memory
problems when they're older.
Scans show their brains are almost 3 percent smaller
than those who don't have diabetes or high blood pressure.
