District Was Closed After Flu Outbreak

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. -- Students in Wisconsin Dells went back to class on Monday after a flu outbreak prompted officials to close schools last week.The district has been closed since Tuesday afternoon after officials said that hundreds of students were sick with flu-like symptoms on Monday and Tuesday. Extra curricular events were also canceled.School employees scrubbed down classrooms while students were away in preparation for Monday's reopening.District administrator Chuck Whitsell said state and county health officials were consulted after one-third of the 580 high-school kids were absent early last week with flulike symptoms, as well as about 10 percent of 1,120 middle-school and elementary-school students.The district includes geographical area includes Sauk, Juneau, Adams, Columbia and Marquette counties.
