Study Looking For Pediatric Allergy Sufferers

Study Tests New Nasal Spray

Updated: 7:30 am CDT September 15, 2008

Dean Foundation doctors are looking for children with itchy, runny or stuffy noses from seasonal allergies to take part in a new study.

Patients ages 6 to 11 are being recruited to study a new nasal spray called Patanase.

The spray has been effective in treating adult allergic rhinitis, but doctors hope it could also offer relief to children, making it more enjoyable to play outdoors.

"What we want to do is get these kids symptom-free so they don't have runny, stuffy, itchy noses, itchy eyes and can go to school and sleep at night and play outdoors in what has been some very beautiful weather," said Dean pediatric allergist Dr. Don Bukstein.

The study, called Noses Rule, is free and also offers compensation.

It will only be running a few more weeks.
