State's Organ Donation Mascot Makes Debut

WPS Sponsors Mascot

POSTED: 4:00 pm CDT September 7, 2008

Wisconsin's new organ donation mascot made its debut Saturday at the Badger football game.

Dottie the Dot is sponsored by WPS Insurance, whose statewide "ORGANize to Save Lives" campaign is helping to raise the numbers of Wisconsinites who have made the decision to donate.

The goal is to get 1 million people in Wisconsin to put the orange donor dot stickers on their driver's licenses.

"About 80,000 people were going to be at the game, and so we wanted them to meet Dottie the Dot and we want them to put the dot on their driver's license and let their family members know," said Hannah Rosenthal, with WPS Insurance.

There are 100,000 people in Wisconsin on a waiting list for an organ, but one person's donation can affect up to 50 lives, WISC-TV reported.
