MADISON, Wis. -- A new audit said that the state health system should find a different way to deliver dental services to low-income people in four southeastern Wisconsin counties. The Legislative Audit Bureau said that the current managed care system used by the state Department of Health and Family Services is more costly than reimbursing providers individually based on their expenses. The managed care system provides dental services to BadgerCare Plus participants through health maintenance organizations, or HMOs.It is in place in Milwaukee, Kenosha, Racine and Waukesha counties. The rest of the state uses the other method.
