MADISON, Wis. -- A new security measure is being added to make sure prescriptions aren't copied or erased.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportA federal law requires that all prescriptions be written on a tamper-proof pad. As of April 1, the pad must have one of three security measures, including water marks, copy prevention or erasing prevention. The law applies to all Medicaid, BadgerCare and SeniorCare prescriptions. The director of pharmacy for Dean Health and St. Mary's Hospital said it's a step necessary to solve a problem."With the copy machines we have, it's fairly easy to copy a prescription, which makes it very difficult to tell if it's original -- and people do erase things and then change them," said Russel Jensen, director of pharmacy at Dean Health and St. Mary's Hospital. The switch was supposed to go into effect last October but was delayed due to communication concerns between pharmacies and doctors.
