Officials Seek Standards For 15 Contaminants

MADISON, Wis. -- The public will get a chance to sound off on a state plan to add more than a dozen new contaminants to Wisconsin's groundwater standards.The state Department of Natural Resources wants to create standards for 15 new contaminants, including four pesticides, compounds left behind when pesticides break down and compounds related to production of explosives and munitions.Public hearings on the proposals are set to begin Friday and run through next week. Sites include Madison, Baraboo, Eau Claire, Stevens Point and Oshkosh.The DNR also will take written comments through Dec. 30.
