Badgers' Athletic Department Gets National Praise

Campaign Honored At National Association Of Collegiate Marketing Administrators Convention

Updated: 12:36 pm CDT June 22, 2009

University of Wisconsin's athletic department is receiving national recognition for its "Wear Red. Think Green. Badgers Recycle." campaign.

The department won a bronze award at the 2009 National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators annual convention.

During last year's football season, fans attending events at Camp Randall Stadium were encouraged to recycle plastic soda bottles.

UW officials spread the slogan using 100 student volunteers and through video board messages, program ads and signs. More than 2,600 pounds of material was recycled as a result.

Wisconsin also designated the Illinois game last October as a "carbon-neutral" game, the first of its kind in the Big Ten Conference and one of the first in the nation.
