Goodwill Now Accepting Old Computers

Monitors, Printers, Hard Drives Can Be Donated

Disposing of old computer parts just got a little easier in Wisconsin.

Many Goodwill donation centers in the state started taking old computer equipment this week through the Dell-Reconnect recycling program for free.

Computers, monitors, printers, hard drives and other parts are now accepted. Any brand of computers -- desktop or laptop -- are being accepted in any condition at Goodwill drop off sites in Madison and throughout south-central Wisconsin.

Some computers will be refurbished and sold at Goodwill stores while others will be sent to Dell's recycling partners and Goodwill will be paid by the pound.

Maureen Roche, of Goodwill Industries of South Central Wisconsin, said that the effort will inevitably help their work.

"We're excited about the program because we haven't been able to accept computers before, but now, this is going to introduce a whole new revenue stream for Goodwill to support our mission," Roche said.

Goodwill advises donors to erase all sensitive information on the hard drive before donating their machine.

She said that just like any donation, customers can also get a receipt for tax purposes.
