'Take A Stake In The Lakes' Event Sees 22nd Year

Another Cleanup Scheduled For June 20

Posted: 12:54 am CDT June 14, 2009

The Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission held the 22nd Annual "Take a Stake in the Lakes" clean up on Saturday.

Volunteers cleaned up Lake Mendota, Lake Kegonsa and other waterways throughout the county.

"We still have a lot to do with runoff, controlling runoff, sediments, and nutrients that are carried there," said watershed management coordinator Sue Jones. "The nutrients, especially the phosphorus, feeds algae growth. What we're focusing on today with individuals is a lot about trash pick up."

Another clean-up day is scheduled for next Saturday, June 20, when divers will head to the lake floor to help remove debris.
