Jeff Peters and the Green Plan-It in Baraboo were just one of 100 eco-friendly businesses at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison on Friday, Saturday and Sunday helping open the public's eyes to green living.

"We're trying to expose people to different ways of doing things," said Peters.

Peters' business opened two weeks ago.

"We're a new business and part of the reason we're here is there is excitement now," he said.

Peters said he believe the Obama administration's push to go green has helped companies like his get off the ground.

"There's definitely a growing awareness and there's a growing need for change," said Peters.

Event organizers said that awareness was one of the goals of the expo.

"A lot of our exhibitors have said with the new political landscape shaping the way that it is and with the green economy emerging we really want to be there," said Tiffany Thom of Madison Magazine.

Posi-Pair is a Web site project of University of Wisconsin graduate student Sarah Manski. The site brings together green businesses owners and their customers.

"Green business is the future and ten years from now, 20 years from now there won't be any businesses that don't have to do green technology," said Manski.

Manski said her Web site reaches business owners from all over the state.

"Even in a down economy, which we're coming out of, green business has not suffered, its actually thrived," said Manski.

The expo recognized the Willy Street Co-op as the best overall green business with the 100 Percent Award. Second Rain and Habitat ReStore were also recognized for helping transform the community, WISC-TV reported.
