Edgewood College Looks To Build On Green Efforts

Program Focuses On Voluntary Inspections

The Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities is partnering with the Department of Natural Resources and the Environmental Protection Agency to launch voluntary environmental health and safety inspections on campuses.

Edgewood College is part of the group, and although it currently uses solar power for a dorm and utilizes rain gardens to minimize water runoff, the college said it wants to stay environmentally friendly.

"It can be everything from a chemistry lab to the chlorine in the swimming pool. We want to make sure we have the highest standards for health and safety," said Dr. Rolf Wegenke, of the Green Initiative.

The plan stresses voluntary compliance, which includes indentifying problems and promptly correcting any violations.
