MADISON, Wis. -- A University of Wisconsin student group is hoping more people will pitch in and start thinking green.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportStudents from REthink Wisconsin - - a group dedicated to sustainability on campus - - are teaming up with UW athletics to start a recycling program called "W ear red, think green, Badgers recycle.""What were doing is we started a recycling program with the office of the Athletic Department and our student organization," said Maria Davis with Rethink Wisconsin. "We want to be here in order to guide them and educate them primarily on our program and how were working with the Athletic Department.""On game day itself, its been pretty much a free-for-all situation because there are certain areas that are limited as far as access to various waste, so we've kind of had trouble pulling together a plan that works," said Senior Associate Athletic Director Vince Sweeney. But if everybody pitches in, organizers hope to recycle 30,000 plastic bottles, WISC-TV reported."What better way to be part of the educational component in the University than to show 80,000 people what recycling is all about, so were really pleased to be working with athletics," said UW Professor and Rethink WI Faculty Adviser Jack Kloppenburg.Volunteers hope the lessons learned on game day will translate to life outside badger football."Well the worlds a beautiful place. Let's keep it that way. And a great way to start it is to wear red, think a little bit green. It's a simple thing. Just toss those plastic bottles into a recycling bin," said Kloppenburg.Along with the recycling program, the Badgers are also working on a five-year sustainability plan to find more ways to go green, WISC-TV reported.People interested in taking part and volunteering with the recycling program find out more information by clicking here: Rethink
