State Paid $251,000 To Sierra Club In Power Plant Case
Officials Strike Settlement Deal

MADISON, Wis. -- The state of Wisconsin has paid the Sierra Club $251,000 in legal fees after the environmental group settled a lawsuit that uncovered clean air violations at a University of Wisconsin power plant.Under a settlement last year, the state agreed to cut pollution at the Charter Street Power Plant in Madison immediately and look for similar reductions statewide.The deal also required the state to pay legal fees but the amount hadn't been calculated.The two sides reached a settlement last month requiring the state to pay $251,000.
The amount had been kept quiet, but The Associated Press obtained documents showing the state recently made the payment.
