The grocery is launching its "food miles" campaign, showing shoppers the amount of fossil fuels it takes for food to travel from farm to market. In fact, most of the cost of food goes into transportation costs, which is why Metcalfe's is emphasizing buying food from the state of Wisconsin.
"Buying Wisconsin is buying local for us and you're helping the environment. We're putting money back into the economy. You're helping local farmers when you buy from us. We're giving back to the community as well," said Brianna Purvis, of Metcalfe Sentry.Metcalfe's said that new vendors and producers are coming in every day.Other exhibitors include Purple Prairie Botanicals, Cobra Head, Conscious Choice, Sundara Inn & Spa, Waunakee Remodeling and Fair Indigo, will present and sell eco-friendly, fair trade and sustainable products.Other attractions include a hybrid test course, a health and wellness pavilion, a green art gallery, a fresh market and even a green-oriented "kids zone" for your young people. The three-day expo at the Alliant Energy Center's Exhibition Hall continues through Sunday.
