Madison Launches 'Mowtown' Program For Parks Maintenance
City Invests In Native Planting

MADISON, Wis. -- The city of Madison is launching a new effort to maintain city parks and other green spaces.
VIDEO: Watch The Report"Mowtown" is a new multiagency program to coordinate and enhance the appearance of city parks, medians and other green spaces.Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said the program is part of the city's effort to provide basic services in an eco-friendly way.
Cieslewicz said the city is investing in native planting, which will require less maintenance and give a more natural look."We'll convene a group of city managers to reduce the use of gas. The more natural planting, the more they will require less maintenance. But we will spend about $50,000 a year to expand natural planting," Cieslewicz said.GPS technology will help the mowers run more effectively. Seasonal workers will also be hired to stay ahead of the growth, WISC-TV reported.
