Birds Benefit From Recycled Christmas Trees

Officials Say Trees Could Also Be Used As Mulch

UPDATED: 5:17 pm CST January 7, 2008

Green experts have some tips for those taking down Christmas trees this time of year.

Experts said before tossing the tree, residents should consider recycling it in their own yard, WISC-TV reported.

They advise people to simply leave the tree in the stand and place it outdoors to create a shelter for birds. Experts ask that tree owners remove all tinsel, plastic and other non-recyclable ornaments.

They said the old Christmas trees can be redecorated with bird food ornaments.

The tree could also be used to mulch sensitive plants, WISC-TV reported.
