SPRINGFIELD, Wis. -- Dane County 's first wind farm is scheduled to be spinning next year in the Town of Springfield .It's a $20-million project by EcoEnergy. The Elgin, Ill.-based company is building six 397-foot turbines that will generate an estimated 22 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year, according to Curt Bjurlin, permit project manager for the company. This is enough electricity to power more than 2,500 homes.
Property owners Tom Helt and Stan Hellenbrand proposed building two turbines in 2005, but the project expanded after EcoEnergy spent two years collecting wind data at the location.Hellenbrand said each farmer will receive about $4,500 per year for the power generated by each turbine.
