MADISON, Wis. -- A new study said that a chemical found in plastic baby bottles, formula cans and many household products poses a risk to children and unborn babies.

The report by the National Toxicology Program said low levels of bisphenol-A, or BPA, can cause changes in behavior, the brain and certain glands, WISC-TV reported.

Owners of the Happy Bambino said that studies like this are definitely on the minds of parents.

"We see a huge increase in calls about both glass bottles and bisphenol-A free plastic bottles. Also, parents are concerned with other chemicals in the plastic as well," said Alison Dodge, owner of Happy Bambino.

One way to avoid BPA is to use glass bottles.

Dodge said her store has been selling out of glass bottles. She recommended Medela, a breast pump manufacturer that makes BPA-free bottles as well.
