Carnival expands 'all-you-can-drink' test program on ships
'My Awesome Bar Program' available for about $50 per day
For those who have ever shrieked in terror after viewing their bar tabs at the end of a cruise vacation, Carnival may just have the ultimate solution: an "all-you-can-drink" alcohol package.
USA Today reported that the world's largest cruise line announced that it's expanding a test of the "My Awesome Bar Program" from the Carnival Splendor and Carnival Victory to the Carnival Spirit and Carnival Breeze.
The program offers thirsty cruisers access to nearly unlimited wine, beer and spirits as well as sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails for $42.95 per person per day plus an automatic 15% gratuity of $6.44.
According to the newspaper, the program can be used to order all wines by the glass, beer and individual cocktails priced at $10 and lower, and that bottles of wine and champagne, as well as libations priced above $10, are eligible for a 25 percent discount.
Crafty cruisers looking to slip around the rules and partake of their roommate's discount should be aware that Carnival thought of it first: the program requires each passenger 21 and over in the same stateroom to purchase the package.
A representative for Carnival told USA Today that the company hasn't decided whether it will roll out the program to its 22 other ships in the fleet.
