Of all the apple crisps you have tried, this may become your favorite.
- 4 medium peeled apples, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons sugar
Topping
- 1 cup flour
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 4 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a deep 9-inch pie pan or a 9 x 9 inch baking pan. Place apple slices in bottom of baking pan. Combine cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle on top of apples. Set aside. In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, salt, and baking powder. Stir to mix Add egg and stir with a fork until mealy. Crumble mixture on top of apples. Combine melted butter, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, allspice, and vanilla. Pour evenly over the top of the crumble mixture. Bake for 35 - 40 minutes or until brown on top and apples are tender.
